Kristine Kern (Forschungsgruppe Urbane Nachhaltigkeitstransformationen) ist bereits seit März 2012 am Leibniz-Institut für Raumbezogene Sozialforschung (IRS) beschäftigt. Von Dezember 2017 bis Dezember 2020 war sie Gastprofessorin an der Åbo Akademi University in Turku (Finnland), wo sie bereits seit 2010 Docent/Associate Professor für Verwaltungswissenschaft ist. Sie hat auch als Professorin an der Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Universität Potsdam (gemeinsame Berufung mit dem IRS) (2012-2016) gearbeitet. Derzeit ist sie Gastwissenschaftlerin am Kommunalwissenschaftlichen Institut (KWI) der Universität Potsdam. Zudem war sie als Universitair Docent in der Environmental Policy Group (ENP) an der Universität Wageningen, Niederlande (2008-2012), Gastprofessorin im Department for Life Sciences an der Södertörn University, Huddinge, Schweden (2007-2008) und DAAD-Gastprofessorin an der University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA (2005-2007) beschäftigt.

Nach dem Studium der Verwaltungswissenschaft, der Volkswirtschaft und der Politikwissenschaft in Stuttgart, Tübingen und Berlin und nach erfolgreicher Beendigung ihrer mit dem Joachim-Tiburtius-Preis des Landes Berlin ausgezeichneten Dissertation in Politikwissenschaft (FU Berlin 1998) war Kristine Kern als Postdoktorandin Mitglied des Graduiertenkollegs ‚Demokratie in den USA‘ am John F. Kennedy-Institut der FU Berlin (1997-1999) und arbeitete danach am Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung (1999-2005).

2007/2008 erhielt sie den Forschungspreis des Riksbankens Jubileumsfond für einen einjährigen Forschungsaufenthalt an der Södertörn University (Schweden). Zudem ist sie häufig als Gutachterin für die Evaluierung von Forschungsanträgen auf nationaler und internationaler Ebene tätig (z.B. für die Europäische Kommission und den Europäischen Forschungsrat).

In den letzten Jahren konzentrieren sich ihre Forschungsinteressen vor allem auf lokale und regionale Klima- und Energiepolitik, die nachhaltige Entwicklung von Städten und Regionen und die Skalierung von lokalen Experimenten.

Konflikte in der Planung: Großprojekte und ihr Potenzial zum institutionellen Wandel

Das Projekt untersucht Großprojekte als tiefgreifende Brüche, welche die eingespielten Routinen von Institutionen erschüttern und zu einem institutionellen Wandel führen können. Das Projekt untersucht das Großprojekt der Tesla-Ansiedlung im Vergleich zu weiteren Fallstudien in Hinblick auf disruptive Wirkungen auf Politik und Planung und überprüft damit die Übertragbarkeit des Begriffs Disruption auf die Politik- und Planungsforschung. mehr Info

    Engagement ist Voraussetzung für kommunalen Klimaschutz
    Neuer Artikel in Zeitschrift „Politikum“

    Klimaschutz und Klimaanpassung sind in Deutschland freiwillige Aufgaben der Kommunen. Entsprechend gibt es auf kommunaler Ebene große Unterschiede, ob und wie der Klimaschutz angepackt wird. Einige wenige Städte wurden schon Anfang der 1990er-Jahre mit ehrgeizigen Zielen zu Vorreitern. Vor allem in kleinen Kommunen ist die Mehrheit aber erst sehr viel später aktiv geworden – oder bis heute noch gar nicht. In einem Beitrag in der Zeitschrift „Politikum“ zeigen Kristine Kern, Wolfgang Haupt, Elisa Kochskämper und Peter Eckersley von der IRS-Forschungsgruppe „Urbane Nachhaltigkeitstransformationen“ nun die wichtigsten Trends kommunaler Klima- und Nachhaltigkeitspolitik auf. mehr Info
