Dr. Yorgos Paschos
Research Associate | Economy and Civil Society

Yorgos Paschos joined the IRS in March 2026 as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Research Area “Economy and Civil Society”. He is currently contributing to the lead project “Caring – Valuating – Transitioning” within the Research Focus “Creativity and Work”. This project examines organizations that develop social missions as visions for the future, contributing to shifting social values and influencing transformation processes at both national and global levels.

Yorgos completed his PhD in Heritage Studies and Sociology at the University of York, UK. His doctoral project (2021-2025), fully funded by the White Rose College of Arts and Humanities (WRoCAH) in collaboration with the University of York and the York Music Venue Trust, assessed the subcultural heritage significance of grassroots music venues in Northern England. He defined the values local communities attach to these spaces, explored their role in forging local identity, and analyzed how cultural significance shapes their operational models and policy influence. During his doctoral training, Yorgos published on the heritage of subcultures, participatory methodologies, and spatial resistance.

Beyond his research, Yorgos brings experience in open research advocacy, having served as Open Research Graduate Engagement Lead at the University of York Library. There, he contributed towards the development of a community of practice, promoting the benefits of open access publishing and research. He is also a member of the Punk Scholars Network. He holds a Research Master in Sociology of Culture, Media and the Arts from Erasmus University Rotterdam (2019-2021) and a BA in Communication and Media Studies from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2014-2018).
