Julia Warmers has been the Administrative Director of the IRS since 1 June 2026. She is responsible for the administrative division and acts as the budget officer. Together with the Scientific Director, Prof. Dr Oliver Ibert, she forms the Executive Board of the IRS and contributes to shaping the institute’s strategy.
Julia Warmers possesses many years of leadership experience in science, higher education, and arts management at internationally oriented institutions. Most recently, she headed the Department for Funding and Cooperation at the Berlin University of the Arts. Prior to this, she was responsible there for the Strategy and Higher Education Policy Unit, as well as for inter-university research consortia in the fields of digitalisation and sustainability. Further professional roles included positions at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart and the Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe. In addition, she was a partner in an international festival for documentary films on art, based in Berlin.
Julia Warmers studied German Literature, Social Sciences, and History at the University of Duisburg-Essen. She has published and given lectures on the interrelation of art and science and has taught at Munich University of Applied Sciences.
Following the establishment of the Berlin University of the Arts Foundation, she served as Executive Board Member until 2026. Since 2023, she has been a member of the University Council of the University of Arts Linz, Austria.
