Prof. Dr. Jonathan Friedrich

Prof. Dr. Jonathan Friedrich leads the Junior Research Group “Value and Valuation in Structural Change” and is also a Juniorprofessor of Urban and Regional Sociology at the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg.

He studied geography as well as natural area and regional management at the universities of Göttingen and Johannesburg and at the University of Applied Forest Sciences Rottenburg. In 2023, he completed his doctoral studies at the Institute for Geography at the University of Göttingen with a dissertation on sustainability transitions in German livestock farming.

He worked as a research assistant at the Leibniz Center for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) in Müncheberg and, prior to joining the IRS, was a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Human Geography at Lund University. He remains affiliated with the Center for Innovation Research (CIRCLE) at Lund University. His research focuses on the geography of sustainability transformations, particularly their spatial organization, negotiation, and impact.
