Cooperations with Universities and Research Institutes

One crucial pillar of the cooperation with the Universities of Brandenburg and Berlin are joint appointments together with the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, the University of Potsdam, the Free University of Berlin, the Technical University of Berlin and the Humboldt University of Berlin. These university cooperation partners add to the multi-disciplinary research perspective of the IRS and provide the institutional framework for doctorates and habilitations of junior scientists.

Currently there are joint appointments with the

Brandenburgischen Technischen Universität Cottbus-Senftenberg  (Prof. Dr. Oliver Ibert, Director of the IRS)

Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Prof. Dr. Suntje Schmidt).

Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Gabriela Christmann Technische Universität Berlin and
Prof. Dr. Christoph Bernhardt Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin hold extraordinary professorships.

In addition, the right to award doctorates was granted to two junior research group leaders at the IRS:
Dr. Jana M. Kleibert (by Humboldt-University zu Berlin) and
Dr. Monika Motylinska (by Bauhaus-Universität Weimar).

Also, the IRS contributes to the combined research on the joint application for and implementation of coordinated programmes. Currently, the IRS contributes to the following programmes:

German Research Foundation (DFG)

Graduate School: Kulturelle und technische Werte historischer Bauten

Graduate School: Innovationsgesellschaft heute: die reflexive Herstellung des Neuen

Re-Figuration of Spaces is the first sociology-led Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) to be funded by the German Research Foundation. Prof. Dr. Gabriela Christmann of the IRS is involved in the CRC as a member of the management board and as spokesperson for Project Area B, “Spaces of Communication”, and leads the sub-project Digital Urban Planning: Planning Practices and Physical Arrangements.

At regular intervals, researchers from the IRS offer seminars and lectures at universities in Berlin and Brandenburg as well as in other federal states.
