Tim Rottleb arbeitet seit Mai 2018 als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter des Forschungsschwerpunkts „Ökonomie und Zivilgesellschaft“ in der Juniorforschungsgruppe „Constructing Transnational Spaces of Higher Education: International Branch Campus Development at the Interface of Network and Territorial Embeddedness”.

Er hat an der Philipps-Universität Marburg studiert, wo er einen B.A. in Orientwissenschaften mit dem Fokus auf Politikwissenschaft und einen M.A. in Politik und Wirtschaft des Nahen und Mittleren Ostens erlangte. In seinem Studium konzentrierte sich sein Interesse auf verschiedene soziale Konflikte in der MENA-Region und deren urbane Dimensionen. In seiner Masterarbeit untersuchte er den Zusammenhang von Kämpfen um öffentlichen Raum in Kairo und Prozessen der Stadtentwicklung als materielle räumliche Verdichtung von Klassengegensätzen in Ägypten. Während seines Studiums arbeitete er als studentische Hilfskraft in dem Forschungsprojekt „Re-konfigurationen“ am Centrum für Nah- und Mittelostwissenschaften in Marburg. Zusätzlich dazu sammelte er durch seine Tätigkeit für UN-Habitat in Kairo und für das UN World Food Programme in Berlin bereits Erfahrung auf dem Gebiet der internationalen Entwicklungszusammenarbeit.

Open Region: Regionale Problemlagen als Ausgangspunkte von Innovationen (Innovation Hub13 – Fast Track to Transfer)

Das IRS ist an dem im Rahmen der BMBF-Initiative „Innovative Hochschule“ geförderten Projekt „Innovation Hub13 – fast track to transfer“ beteiligt, das von der Technischen Hochschule Wildau und der Brandenburgischen Technischen Universität Cottbus-Senftenberg eingeworben wurde. Prof. Dr. Suntje Schmidt entwickelte das Teilprojekt „Open Region: Regionale Problemlagen als Ausgangspunkte von Innovationen“, welches am Schnittfeld von Innovationsförderung und Regionalentwicklung angesiedelt ist. Ziel des Projektes ist es, Voraussetzungen für die Integration von bisher unberücksichtigten Innovationsakteuren schaffen, um kooperativ Lösungen für regional relevante Problemlagen in Brandenburg zu entwickeln. mehr Info

Constructing Transnational Spaces of Higher Education. International Branch Campus Development at the Interface of Network and Territorial Embeddedness (TRANSEDU)

In den vergangenen zwanzig Jahren ist die Zahl der Studierenden, die ein Hochschulstudium nicht in ihrem Heimatland absolvieren, stetig gestiegen. Zudem investieren viele Hochschulen in internationale Campus (international branch campuses, IBC) im Ausland. Dies sind erste Indizien für eine parallele Globalisierung wissensintensiver Wirtschaftszweige und der Universitätslandschaft. Die Leibniz Junior Research Group „Constructing Transnational Spaces of Higher Education“ (TRANSEDU) befasst sich mit diesem Zusammenhang von globalisierten ökonomischen Prozessen und der Internationalisierung der akademischen Wissenschafts- und Forschungslandschaft. mehr Info

Building the Knowledge Economy, Transforming Cities? Transnational Urban Education Zones in the Nexus of Urban and National Economic Development Strategies in the Globalising West Asia and North Africa Region

This dissertation project investigates transnational urban education zones (TUEZs) in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. These purpose-built urban areas were created to host offshore campuses of foreign universities. TUEZs like Dubai International Academic City or Education City appear to be part of distinctive urban development strategies while at the same time being connected discursively to transformative economic rationales. The project aims to make sense of the strategic decisions of governments to establish such zones, how they relate to urban imaginaries connected to global city ambitions, and how they are connected to future aspirations towards a knowledge-based economy. mehr Info
