Dr. Marc Schulze
Associated Researcher | Economy and Civil Society

Working as an economic geographer, Dr Marc Schulze has been affiliated with the IRS research group Globalisation and Knowledge Economy, and was part of the (former) Leibniz Junior Research Group “Constructing Transnational Spaces of Higher Education: International Branch Campus Development at the Interface of Network and Territorial Embeddedness”. He was a research associate at the Institute of Geography at Universität Hamburg in 2023, and currently works in knowledge and science management at the Presidential Department of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.

Dr Marc Schulze studied Geography, Political Science and English Studies at the University of Freiburg (Germany), the University of Sheffield (UK) and the University of Strasbourg (France). His postgraduate dissertation was on the interplay between university development and local economic transformations, using a case study of the English city of Sheffield. After his studies, he gained a PhD from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin for his thesis on universities’ foreign investment in Malaysia and Singapore between sector opening and closure. Dr Marc Schulze’s activities in research, transfer and practice are located at the interface of knowledge production/ education processes and the (political) economy.
